Masters

This degree allows people with a Bachelor degree and varying levels of IT experience flexible pathways toward advanced studies in computing, including:
Systems and Networks, Multimedia and the Internet, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Mobile Computing and Computer Security.

Non-computing graduates with little experience or study in computing will require 4 semesters (2 years) to complete the MIT. It will be made up as follows:

  • Four undergraduate units in the first semester,
  • Four advanced undergraduate units in the second semester
  • Four postgraduate units in each of the third and fourth semesters.
Non-computing graduates with previous studies or workplace experience in computing will be required to complete the final three semesters (1.5 years) in order to graduate.

Students with a degree in Computing with excellent academic records and workplace experience in computing will be required to complete the final two semesters (1 year) in order to graduate.

With permission, two postgraduate units may be replaced with an advanced project.

Master of Information Technology

Location - Hobart and Launceston
Fees - Commonwealth Supported
Intake - February and July
Duration - Minimum 1.5 years (3 sem), maximum 4 years (8 sem)

This Masters program allows students with a bachelor degree and varying levels of IT experience, flexible pathways toward advanced studies in information technology and computing, providing skills and knowledge needed to work as a computer professional.

The pathways to enter the Master of Information Technology are:

Pathway AFor non computing graduates, with little or no experience or study in IT.

Students will complete eight foundation units in information technology plus an additional eight postgraduate units. The full-time duration is 2 years. The foundation eight units are equivalent to the Graduate Diploma of Computing.


Pathway B
For computing graduates, or non-computing graduates with prior studies and workplace experience in information technology.

Students will complete four foundation units, followed by eight postgraduate units. The full-time duration is 18 months.


Pathway C
For computing graduates with excellent academic records and workplace experience in computing

Students will undertake one year of study (full-time) to complete eight post-graduate units.
