Academic Dress Hire

  • The Compass Group provides academic dress hire and sale to all graduands and staff members with the exception of the Australian Maritime College. Academic dress hire for AMC graduands is available through the AMC. 
  • Academic Dress Hire for ALL PhD candidates is available through the Compass Group.
  • Further information on UTAS academic dress hire services is available on the Compass Group website. 
  • Further information on AMC academic dress hire services is available on the AMC website. 
  • The Compass Group/AMC will know your award and will supply you with the correct colours.
  • If you have indicated that you are attending your ceremony, the Compass Group and AMC will reserve academic dress for you to hire. 
  • The Compass Group staff will be present at the ceremony venue to help you with your academic dress.

Academic Dress Hire Costs

Hire cost
Gown $50 (purchase price from $290)
Hood or stole $30 (purchase price from $100)
Cap (mortar board) $40 (This is yours to keep)
Tudor bonnet (PhD only) $40 (This is a hire item)
Total cost $120

AMC Academic Dress Hire Costs

Hire cost
Gown $50
Hood or stole $30
Cap (mortar board) $35 (This is yours to keep)
Refundable deposit $50
Total cost $165 ($115 plus a refundable deposit of $50)
  • Payment should be made at least one week prior to the Graduation ceremony
  • Credit card facilities are available
  • Academic dress can be collected from the Swanson Building (AMC) on Friday 16 August between 9am - 4pm.
