The 4-year full-time combined degree of Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Computing is offered on the Launceston and Hobart campuses by the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Admission & Prerequisites

Possession of the University's minimum entry requirements.

FOR THE BBUS COMPONENT: While no prerequisites apply for the BBus component of the degree, students who have not successfully completed TCEMAP 5C Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent unit, or, a higher level mathematics unit, as approved by the School ofEconomics and Finance, are required to complete either KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit, UPP090 Bridging Maths or BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods before enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods. International students who are required to undertake a mathematics bridging program may only take BEA109. Students who have completed a diploma or advanced diploma in a business related disciplineat an Australian institute of TAFE may receive credit towards the Business component of the degree.

The Faculty of Business also offers direct credit for its awards. For example, a BBus student wishing to transfer to the BEc with credit and vice versa receives direct credit. BBus students wishing to transfer to a combined degree may also receive direct credit. Applicants wishing to obtain credit for study already undertaken within another faculty, or an Australian or overseas tertiary institution should consult the Admission Guide for information on procedure.

In the case of international students, credit for previous study will be determined on application.

Depending on the course of study and the majors chosen, students may not be able to use all of the credit that has been granted, for example, credit for unspecified electives. The status of individual units is determined at the time of offer.

FOR THE SCHOOL OF COMPUTING COMPONENT (Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology) : Students should consult the Science, Engineering and Technology Faculty Office concerning credit.

English language skills will also need to be verified. International students must provide an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. Course Objectives

To combine professional studies in computing with professional studies in business (in areas such as accounting, information systems and human resource management).

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the combined degree could expect to find employment in such fields as accounting, human resource management, programming, software construction, systems administration, multimedia and internet technologies.

Professional Recognition

Associate membership of the Australian Computer Society. Associate membership of a professional body for the BBus component of the combined degree will depend on the major completed.

The Bachelor of Business Honours degree requires one year of full-time study in addition to the requirements for the BBus pass degree or one of the combined business degrees. Please contact the relevant School for further details.
