The Diploma of University Studies is a one year full time equivalent course designed as an alternative entry pathway to university study that will provide students with academic foundation knowledge and skills and achievement at introductory level in at least two units in an area of study in which they wish to gain entry to a degree. The program is particularly suited to students requiring additional learning support in their first year of study. Diploma specialisations currently available are: Diploma of University Studies (Education), Diploma of University Studies (Science), and Diploma of University Studies (Arts). The course will be offered full time or part time and by distance/on-line Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast, Interstate and Isolated.
Admission & Prerequisites
The Diploma of University Studies (Education) is designed for applicants who do not meet entrance requirements for their chosen UTAS degree or for those who want a more supported or graded introduction to their studies. This may include mature-aged students returning to study, some VET graduate or students with a low ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions rank) score from their year 11/12 studies. Entry will be granted by assessment of a student's prior study history and supporting statement, literacy and numeracy assessment and/or personal interview.
Students unsure of their eligibility to an undergraduate Degree should submit an application to the Degree course in the first instance. If you are not elgible you may be offered a place in a Diploma. Students with insufficient IT skills may be required to enrol in an additional enabling-level unit (UPP050 Using Technology).
Articulation to/from Course
Students undertaking preparatory study in the University Preparation Program will get credit into the Diploma for any successfully completed equivalent units. Students graduating from the Diploma will get credit either into Associate Degree (4 foundation units plus credit for any successfully completed first year units) or into a degree (credit for successfully completed first year units that meet the requirements of the destination degree). Students will be able to articulate from any VET Certificate IV into the Diploma of University Studies.
Foundation and enabling level units are provided at no cost to Australian and New Zealand Citizens.
Commonwealth supported university places are avialable for Introductory (first year) level units delivered via the Faculty of Arts to Australian and New Zealand Citizens.
