This unit is designed for students/human service practitioners enrolled in BA Hons Professional Social Sciences [Human Services Practice] study program.

Note: Students can attend workshops at Sandy Bay or Newnham UTAS campuses.

About Census Dates


In this unit, students will develop specialised and applied knowledge and skills relevant to the practices of supervision of staff and students in human services. Students work online and through workshop-based training to develop sound understanding of the nature of quality professional supervision and the important place that it has in the delivery of quality services; supervising students will be given particular attention. Topics include: understanding approaches to learning; developing professional, reflective and ethical frameworks; working towards successful outcomes; managing challenges; and, evaluating performance.

WEIGHT: 12.5%


Online activities (approx. 1000 words or equivalent; 30%); workshop participation (20%); practice-based portfolio (approx. 2000 words or equivalent; 50%).


Online attendance (approx. 15 hours); compulsory workshop attendance (approx. 15 hours). Dates and venues TBA
