Computer-aided Textiles

Enrolment code: FFX206/306

Offered: Launceston: semester 2,

Unit description:

In recent years computer-aided design technology has either completely replaced or enhanced many of the traditional methods of working in textiles. This unit will explore the new possibilities offered by computer technology as a major tool in aiding the creative processes associated with textile studio arts practice. Digital textile transfer printing, computer facilitated weaving and the exploitation of software for computer-linked sewing machines will form the basis of the technological investigation. These computer experiences will be set within a context of textile studio projects that enable the conceptual and technological characteristics to be fully tested in making individual works of art or prototypes for serial production.
