Researchers recognised nationally as leaders in their field

The University of Tasmania’s Professor Andrew Hills, (obesity), Professor Stephen Rattigan (diabetes), Professor Michael Breadmore (analytical chemistry) and Associate Professor Xiaolin Wang (thermal sciences), have all been recognised as leaders in their field of research in The Australian newspaper’s Research The Stars of 2018 publication.

Associate Dean, Global and Professor of Sports and Exercise Science Professor Hills, said the recognition was the result of many years of work in the obesity field.

“The recognition of my national leadership in the field of obesity was overwhelming, the culmination of decades of work in the space,” he said.

“It was not only recognition of my personal effort but that of many dedicated colleagues including over 30 PhD scholars and a raft of Postdoctoral Fellows who have worked with me.

“It was a delight to receive this accolade as the University’s College of Health and Medicine consolidates its research flagships, including obesity.”

Field leaders were selected based on the number of papers published in the Top 20 journals in each field.

The list included leading researchers and institutions across more than 250 fields of research.
