University of Tasmania School of Medicine researcher Dr Emma Eaton took out top billing as ‘Discipline Winner’ in the 2018 National 5 Minute Research Pitch (5RP) held recently in Brisbane.
Dr Eaton and fellow finalist and University of Tasmania researcher Dr Alison Dunn (Tasmanian School of Business and Economics) represented the categories of Science and Health and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences in the grand final which saw early and mid-career researchers from across Australia compete by presenting their research to a national audience.
5RP provides the opportunity for researchers to engage a national audience and gain exposure for high quality research.
Professor Clive Baldock (University of Tasmania Pro Vice-Chancellor, Researcher Development) was on the panel of judges and commented on the high calibre of the presentations at the finals.
Dr Eaton who presented her research on ‘Improving the process of drug development for stroke’ was awarded $1500 in research funding.
Dr Dunn presented her research on ‘Can Tourism Save Tasmania’s Premium Niche Producers?’
The National 5 Minute Research Pitch (5RP) finals are an annual event and follow the 5RP State finals held at the University of Tasmania earlier this month.
