Miguel has developed a research career in human physiology and metabolism, researching the diet-induced development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes during his PhD at the Garvan Institute and post-doctoral positions in Toulouse (France) and the Garvan. During his Peter Doherty Research Fellowship at UNSW his research interest shifted to the fascinating world of neuroscience, studying how the brain controls glucose metabolism.
