Ms McKay is a full time academic within the discipline of nursing. She is responsible for the curriculum guidance development and coordination of a fully immersive, high fidelity, simulation based program within the Bachelor of Nursing. She is also the unit coordinator for the postgraduate offering in simulation based education and also provides supervision to honours students in the area of simulation based learning and teaching.
Ms McKay's previous roles include Principal Educator for the Simulated Learning Environments (SLE) Project in Tasmania, Clinical Nurse Educator, Operating Room within the DHHS, President of the Tasmanian Operating Room Nurses and representative of the Australian Council of Operating Room Nurses.
Ms McKay's teaching interests include using frameworks in simulation for developing problem solving, reasoning and decision making, constructivist theory for developing deep learning and engagement, and a particular interest in identity theory and how this is constructed through simulation.
She also has specific expertise in fully immersive simulation delivery and debriefing for undergraduate students of nursing.
Ms McKay lists her research interest area(s) in qualitative research in the area of human behaviour and cognition, and the study of human behaviour in a simulated clinical environment for the purpose of learning and teaching.
