Associate Professor Marlow first registered as a nurse in 1985 and has been employed in a variety of healthcare settings locally and internationally since this time. She has carefully woven clinical practice into her academic career which has ensured she continues to focus on the best possible learning and teaching outcomes for students, staff and industry partners. A/Prof Marlow's current role as the Director of Professional Experience within the Faculty of Health enables her to focus on the provision of quality professional experience placements for all, from a strategic and operational perspective.
A/Prof Marlow has taught and coordinated many units within the undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programs, but her current focus relates to the provision of support, guidance and mentorship to those health practitioners who support learners in workplace settings. She currently teaches into postgraduate units related to learning and teaching in healthcare settings. In addition, she also collaborates with the Tasmanian Clinical Education Network to provide 'Supervision Support' workshops across Tasmania.
Since 2010 A/Prof Marlow has been actively engaged in many research and evaluation projects primarily focusing on the provision of quality clinical placements to students. The focus on building capacity of clinical supervisors to support students in practice is a national healthcare priority. Given this, scholarship pertaining to building capacity of organisations to host student placements has also been integral towards her research interests. Her role as a Chief Investigator in 'Establishing Teaching Nursing Homes to Provide Quality Inter-Professional Clinical Placements in Aged Care' has confirmed the necessity to promote non-traditional placement opportunities to healthcare students, this ensuring they receive a more global and representative understanding of healthcare provision.
