NSW Ministry of Health Registered Nurse Scholarship Program


The University of Tasmania and the NSW Ministry of Health have partnered together to offer Postgraduate Nursing qualifications on a scholarship basis to NSW Ministry of Health registered nurses.

Our postgraduate nursing courses are designed for practicing nurses who would like to specialise in a particular field of healthcare, and are suitable for nurses in various stages of their career.Our postgraduate courses are delivered part time providing you the flexibility required to balance work, study and family life.

Under the NSW Ministry of Health Scholarship Program, successful applicants (based on UTAS entry requirements) for Child and Family Health or Acute Care will be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Specialisation) (H5F).

Successful applicants (based on UTAS entry requirements) for Addiction Studies will be admitted to the Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies (H5G).

All students will be enrolled into units by the University.

  • Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies must hold an undergraduate degree or have qualifications and experience deemed to be the equivalent, and be employed in a field related to addiction disorders.
  • Applicants for the Child and Family Health specialisation will be required to attend face to face study days in NSW. Further details will be provided by the unit co-ordinator. Child and Family Health is typically only a Semester one entry course. Therefore, future availability for commencing students in this specialisation would only be in February.

As an approved applicant under the partnership arrangement with the NSW Ministry of Health / HETI you are only eligible to study the following specialisation areas under this scholarship arrangement.

  1. Child and Family Health
  2. Acute Care Nursing
  3. Addiction Studies

These specialisations require you to have access to clinical practice within the relevant nursing environment.

To access the Scholarship applicants must have/be:

  • a Registered Nurse in Australia
  • had at least six months of full-time experience in relevant nursing practice within the last two years
  • a successful applicant through the Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) approved selection process
  • working in NSW Health full time/part time
  • a permanent resident or citizen of Australia

When submitting your application you will need to apply for the:

  1. Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Specialisation) (H5F) for the Child and Family Health  or Acute Care streams or; the
  2. Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies (H5G)
  3. You will also need to attach the following supporting documentation with your application:
  • Signed student contract (HETI)
  • Confirmation of current AHPRA registration; and
  • CV

When submitting your application, you will also need to upload the HETI documents as verification. If this information is not provided on application, a scholarship will not be applied.

  • Print and complete the associated application form
  • Send completed form along with the required supporting documentation to Health.Central@utas.edu.au by 10th July 2017
