"Hobart is a really beautiful city to study in and has a very well-established pharmacy school. As a student you are personally taught and guided by some of the most academically recognised pharmacists in Australia."
– Caitlin O'Keefe, Bachelor of Pharmacy
Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm)
I really enjoy science, in particular human biology and chemistry, but when considering career options my main focus was to work in healthcare. I want to work in a role that is patient orientated and in particular, has an influence on a person’s life. I decided that pharmacy was the perfect combination of science and healthcare.
I grew up in Hobart and decided to study at the University of Tasmania because it was convenient, however, the pharmacy facilities have positively surprised me and I am so glad that I chose this university. Pharmacy at the University of Tasmania is a small cohort compared to other universities in Australia, and it is quite unique to be in classes that are not crowded. Our lecturers are familiar with faces and know most of us by name, very uncommon compared to units of 200-300 students.
The thing about pharmacy that many people don’t know is that there are many more options in the profession than just working in a community pharmacy. Personally, my aim is to become a clinical pharmacist working in a hospital in liaison with other healthcare professionals. I enjoy a fast-paced environment and I hope for a lot of diversity in the tasks I perform. I also enjoy communicating with patients, so I want to be on the front line of patient care.
