"Completing postgraduate study at the University of Tasmania has helped me have a really interesting career. I travelled around Australia and because of my extra qualifications, I easily landed jobs."

Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Emergency Nursing)
When I completed my Bachelor of Nursing, I started working in the Surgical Ward and then in the Psychology Ward – both at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH). A position came up in the Emergency Department (ED) that included the opportunity to complete my Graduate Certificate in Nursing (Emergency Nursing). I applied and got it and have enjoyed ED ever since.
Completing postgraduate study at the University of Tasmania has helped me have a really interesting career. I have travelled around Australia and, because of my extra qualifications, I was able to secure employment both in Perth (at the Joondalup Health Campus) and in Darwin (at the Royal Darwin Hospital) working in their respective Emergency Departments.
In 2012, I was looking to expand my career opportunities, so I decided to enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Emergency Nursing). It broadened my knowledge in emergency nursing and gave me insights into other elements of health service delivery such as project management.
Recently, I received a promotion to the role of Clinical Coordinator at the RHH. My extra qualification was a big help with this because it demonstrated that I was engaged in professional development and interested in career progression within emergency nursing.I am excited about the future, and enjoy the diversity and career progression that my nursing degree is giving me.
