This three-year full-time or six-year part-time course is offered by the Faculty of Arts and is available at Hobart, Launceston and the Cradle Coast campus. The Bachelor of Arts offers the opportunity for a liberal education. Students are able to exercise choice across a wide range of disciplines. Four majors are available through the School of History and Classics: History, Ancient Civilisations, Ancient Greek and Latin. Each is discussed in more detail below.
The History major is available as part of the Bachelor of Arts. Compromised of set units on modern and Australian history, this major also offers elective units covering topics such as Tasmanian history, ancient history, gender issues, war, archaeology, economics and classics.
The Ancient Civilisations major is available as part of the Bachelor of Arts. Compromised of set units on ancient history and classical literature, this major also offers elective units covering topics such as Celtic and Roman Britain, the Roman Empire, Medieval Europe, Ancient Greek and Latin, and archaeology.
The Ancient Greek major is available as part of the Bachelor of Arts. This major provides students with a strong grounding in Classical Greek, the language that laid down the foundations of western drama, philosophy and science.
