He has written on the libraries of Bury St Edmunds and St Albans abbeys, on the Benedictine scholar-historian William of Malmesbury, and has made descriptive catalogues of the manuscripts at Lincoln, Hereford and Worcester Cathedrals, and at Merton College, Oxford. He is currently working on the manuscripts at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Together with Em. Prof. Michael Winterbottom of Oxford University, he is also editing William of Malmesbury's Commentary on Lamentations for the series Corpus Christianorum.

Together with Prof. N. J. Morgan of Cambridge University he edited and contributed to The Cambridge History of the Book in Britain II: 1100-1400 (Cambridge, 2008).
His most recent book was A Descriptive Catalogue of the Medieval Manuscripts at Merton College, Oxford (Cambridge 2009).
