The Role of Government in the Development of the Tasmanian Metal Mining Industry.The first part of this study looks at sporadic attempts to 1850 to find and exploit metallic minerals. All efforts were unsuccessful. Part two begins by examining responses of government and private individuals to the discovery of gold on mainland Australia, and part three spans the period from 1867 to 1883, when Government became more responsive to the idea of a a specific ministry to oversee the mining industry. |
