History' |

|
Articles have been written by the most experienced
historians and other experts, and a wide range of sources has
been consulted. Non-technical language has been used, and the
Companion will be vital to students, schools, historians, journalists,
politicians, and anyone interested in Tasmanian history.
The Companion to Tasmanian History contains 1073 articles:
short entries, from 125 to 1500 words, which give factual histories,
and eighteen thematic essays, which look at the major areas in
greater depth. Between them they provide a complete history of
Tasmania, covering not only familiar ground, but also many areas
which have not previously been studied. Topics range from Aboriginal
Art to zoos, from churches and schools to skiing and the Theatre
Royal, and include people from premiers to bushrangers.
The 418 authors are experts in their fields, and come from all
parts of Tasmania, from Hastings to Currie, with some from the
mainland. They have provided a compelling mix of facts and opinions
on everthing you could wish to know about Tasmania's history.
