Glenorchy 1964 - 1998

Alison Alexander,
Glenorchy 1964 - 1988 ,

Glenorchy, Glenorchy City Council, 1998.

Glenorchy 1964-1998 highlights the spectacular growth of the city over the last 35 years.
The first volume in the series, Glenorchy 1804 - 1964, illustrated Glenorchy's steady development from a small settlement of farms and orchards, to the granting of city status in 1964.

This volume shows Glenorchy's development since 1964:

The rise and change of large industry
The development of smaller high-tech industries
Growth in the number of sports and participants
Expansion in churches and schools
The large number of community groups
Growing importance of heritage
Huge increase in the number of shops and shopping centres
Diverse input from migrants from many countries
Council's increasing activities in old and new areas
Council's increasing use of community consultation

Glenorchy today is an exciting city at the forefront of many developments. As became evident during the research for this volume, its citizens are very proud of their city, and the book reflects the pride and the strong sense of community spirit among people of many ages, experience and backgrounds.
