Dr Ahuja worked as a nutrition lecturer and nutritionist at Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital, India in the mid-late 1990s before embarking on further studies. She completed her PhD in 2006 and since then has been working as a Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania. Dr Ahuja is also a member of the Tasmanian Scientific Research Advisory Committee (a subsidiary of the Human Medical Research Ethics committee, Tasmania).Dr Ahuja research area's are nutrition, metabolism and chronic diseases (including coronary heart disease and diabetes).
Dr Ahuja teaches Anatomy and Physiology (CXA172), Bio Science (CXA204/205), Nutrition and Disease (CXA385), Communicating Research (XGR502) and Specialised Research Methods (XGR505).
Dr. Ahuja's Current Research Projects include: menstrual cycle and central blood pressure, gluten free diet and exercise performance, platelet aggregation by vanilloid-like agents, cloud computing in SME's, anti-β2GP1 antibodies and platelet aggregation, availability and cost of healthy food in Tasmania, the effect of herbal combination in the treatment of overactive bladder and urinary incontinence, validation of electronic visual analogue scales, season and vitamin D status, potassium and postprandial blood pressure, Tasmanian native pepper and antioxidant properties, bitter melon and anti-oxidative properties, probiotics and antibiotic associated diarrhoea, Effect of Carpobrotus rossii on plasma lipids, glucose and insulin and chilli and glucose metabolism in type-2 diabetes.
