Miguel teaches Human Biosciences to students of Nursing and Paramedics in both Sydney campuses (St Vincents and Rozelle).
Miguel has developed a research career in human physiology and metabolism, researching the diet-induced development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes during his PhD at the Garvan Institute and post-doctoral positions in Toulouse (France) and the Garvan. During his Peter Doherty Research Fellowship at UNSW his research interest shifted to the fascinating world of neuroscience, studying how the brain controls glucose metabolism. From there he expanded to studying brain control of food intake and obesity, in a collaborative study at the University of Sydney, while teaching Neuroscience and Physiology to students of medicine, science, psychology and pharmacy.. He has currently 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research in national and international conferences.
