The Bachelor of Biomedical Science student presentations and awards were recently held on June 4th in the School of Human Life Sciences. Approximately 40 students, staff and representatives from pathology laboratories around Tasmania attended the very enjoyable and successful evening.
The top five ranking oral presentations were presented in front of the audience by Samantha Calleja, Roxsie Degen, Yvette Shegog, Maggie Tan and Sarah Mann, and all students presented a poster based on their work from recent professional placements. The standard of the presentations were excellent, with Yvette Shegog receiving the award for Best Oral Presentation with her case study: "An Unusual Case of Recurrent Meningitis". Laura Keith was the recipient of the Best Poster for her case study: "A Rare Occurrence: The t(10;11)(p13;q14) Karyotype in AML Minimally Differentiated". These awards were kindly sponsored by Diagnostic Services Pty Ltd (DSPL) and Pathology Department at the Launceston General Hospital.
Following the presentations an awards ceremony was held to acknowledge the outstanding students in the Biomedical Science course. The winners were:
