Welcome to the School of Human Life Sciences (HLS). The School of HLS offers five main undergraduate degree programs (M3G, M3H, M3L, M3Q and M3R) and also teaches students enrolled in nursing and education degrees.
I am your First Year Co-ordinator and along with the First Year team at HLS, I hope to make your first year experience an enjoyable one. All 2012 first year HLS students are invited to our orientation day will be held on Friday 24th February. If you have not received any information about this day, please contact Merran Rogers. Merran and I are your first point of call to assist with your enrolment and we are available throughout the year to assist with your transition into university. You are strongly advised to attend our Orientation day as this is where you will learn a lot about life as a university student, meet new friends, obtain your semester 1 timetable, learn your way around the Launceston campus and meet relevant academic and professional staff.
As your First Year Co-ordinator, I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions (and answers!) that are often posed by first year students. You can access them from the First Year Resources area to the right. If you have any issues that have not been explained in the FAQ, then have a look through the 'Where to find help & information' guide, or feel free to contact me. Orientation day will also, hopefully, answer many of your questions.
Enjoy your first year!
Regards,
Tracy Douglas

The third quiz of the First Year HLS Challenge has now been assessed and the results added to team points on the leaderboard - check the Leaderboard to see how well your team is doing. “The Unknown Elements” are still in the lead just in front of three teams; “The Cardiac Arresters”, “Twice Your Age” and “The Radioheads”. Most teams were represented at the event which covered student support and assignment feedback. The next event will be held in week 12 (22nd May) and will cover important information regarding the end of semester exams and semester 2 enrolments. Even if you are not trying to win the Challenge, you get a free lunch, you may learn a thing or two and you may win a door prize!
Most teams did really well in the last Challenge Quiz but“The Cardiac Arresters” won the last Challenge and so members of this team need to be present at the week 12 event to collect their prize.
Meanwhile... study hard and feel free to ask staff if you have any questions. It is a good time to start making study plans for your examinations as it is unwise to rely on cramming to get through! The exams are only 6 weeks away! Also remember that your mentor is contactable by email if you need them.
If you have any ideas for first year challenge functions, please contact Tracy or Merran ...you never know it could be worth some bonus points for your team!!
