The results of the recent quiz of the First Year HLS Challenge have now been assessed and added to team points on the leaderboard - check the Leaderboard to see how well your team is doing. “The Radioactives” are now in the lead with “Anatomical Beasts” close behind in second place. “Something Fancy” is in a secure third place as these were the only teams represented at our very informative Scholarships and Careers event in August. We hope that you gained some important information regarding resumes and applying for jobs and scholarships and that you enjoyed the sausage rolls and quiz! I was pleased to see that all teams knew the answers to the microbiology questions and questions on scholarships but team knowledge of the recent Wimbledon and Tour de France results was a bit patchy!
Primoris humanus vita scientia challenge will conclude at the end of semester 2 with a final Challenge function and the presentation of the Challenge shield to the winning team. In the meantime there will also be a Health Science forum for Health Science students in September and a couple of team challenges to complete outside of events, so keep your eyes on your email and the CXA172 MyLO site. Final points will be awarded to teams via challenges sent by email in the coming weeks.
Obviously the three teams at the top have their eyes firmly set on trying to win however, for those teams who are not in a winning position – there will be other prizes awarded on our final Challenge day which you may be eligible for!
Also if you have any ideas for the last Challenge event to make it a really fun end to the Challenge, please contact Tracy or Beryl. We are always looking for new ideas!
Meanwhile... keep your eyes on your email and we hope to see you all at the final Challenge event in October.
The results of the third quiz of the First Year HLS Challenge have now been added to team points on the leaderboard - check the Leaderboard to see how well your team is doing. “The Anatomical Beasts” are still in the lead, however, the “The Radioactives” have narrowed the gap and maintained a close second position! “The Injectors” and “Something Fancy” are still not far behind but it was the “Crazy Scientists” who won Quiz 3 and moved up the leaderboard two places in behind “The Pink Hats”. We would like to see more teams represented at the events and so we encourage you all to come along to our first event in semester 2 which will focus on scholarships and careers as well as hints for student learning. Remember that by attending you may win a door prize (include book vouchers, mugs, books and more!!).
Thanks to all students who have been attending the Challenge events this year. We hope that they are easing your transition to university and providing a social occasion for you to mix with your peers.
We hope that you are now settling into your semester 2 units and have familiarised yourself with your current unit outlines. Remember that your mentor is contactable by email if you need any advice or guidance.
If you have any ideas for first year challenge functions, please contact Tracy or Beryl... you never know it could be worth some bonus points for your team!! Meanwhile, keep your eyes on your email for notification of the next Challenge event.

The second quiz of the First Year HLS Challenge has now been assessed and the results added to team points on the leaderboard - check the Leaderboard to see how well your team is doing. “The Anatomical Beasts” are now in the lead after scoring the second highest number of points in this quiz but it was the “The Radioactives” who won quiz 2 for their excellent answers and for being very green on the day! “The Radioactives” are now in second place with “The Injectors” and “Something Fancy” not far behind. We would like to see more teams represented at the events and so we encourage you all to come along to our next event this semester which will be held in week 8 (22nd April). Even if you are not trying to win the Challenge, you may learn a thing or two and you may win a door prize (include book vouchers, mugs, books and more!!).
Thanks to all students who did attend Challenge event - we hope that you enjoyed the pizza lunch, and Easter eggs and learnt a little bit more about feedback for assignments. Our next challenge activity in week 8 will focus on student support and our final semester 1 activity in week 12 will focus on examinations.
Meanwhile... study hard and feel free to ask staff if you have any questions. Also remember that your mentor is contactable by email if you need them.
If you have any ideas for first year challenge functions, please contact Tracy, Beryl or Lisa... you never know it could be worth some bonus points for your team!!
The 2013 Primoris humanus vita scientia challenge is now underway involving all first year Human Life Sciences (HLS) students. All first year HLS students who attended Orientation Day formed teams as part of the Challenge and completed their first Challenge quiz. Challenges will continue throughout 2013 and so make sure you engage in the activities with your team. This year we have 14 teams competing for the 2013 title!
The Challenge leaderboard has been uploaded to the website - check the Leaderboard to see how well your team is doing. At the moment, Motoring Neurons has motored into first place just in front of Mostly Males who are closely followed by Crazy Scientists, Safety First and Anatomical Beasts and the other teams are not far behind!
Our next Challenge event will be held on Monday 18th March at 1pm in C135/C137 and is an opportunity for all teams to gain points for the Challenge as well as learn more about being a first year student in the School of HLS including some information on assignment feedback. All teams are encouraged to attend the next event which will include, of course, a free lunch and door prizes! The members of the team that won the first Challenge quiz (Motoring Neurons), will receive a prize if they attend this event. But no matter where your team is on the leaderboard, come along and enjoy the next interactive Challenge activity, have a chat to students and staff and, hopefully, have some fun!
You can use your discussion group board on the CXA171 MyLO site to interact with your team members and remember to RSVP to Lisa Waters (Lisa.Waters@utas.edu.au) if you are attending the March Challenge event. Hope to see you there!
