English at the University of Tasmania is a broad and dynamic program offering students expansive choice from first year to postgraduate levels. Units cover contemporary film, Australian and Tasmanian literature, early modern and nineteenth-century British literature, American literature, Renaissance drama, popular fiction, critical theory and creative writing.
The English program offers study opportunities on the three major campuses in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie. It has a strong focus on both teaching and research, offering a wide range of courses and units in English literary studies. Research is well-supported, and Australian Research Council (ARC) grants have regularly been awarded to staff. Many of our staff have substantial international reputations in their specialised fields.
As a student of English you can expect to be taught by well-qualified lecturers and tutors who have a real passion for their subjects, and who are committed to providing you with a memorable university experience.
I look forward to meeting you on one of our campuses, and I wish you every success with your studies in the School.
