General Admission Requirements

English Language Requirements

International applicants will be required to provide evidence of their English language ability.

For those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided.

Alternatively, applicants can provide evidence that English has been the sole medium of instruction and examination in their most recent studies, for a minimum of 2 years, and within the last 24 months. Academic transcripts and a letter from your institution will be required. Those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is the official language, may be exempt from the 2 year validity period.

Academic Requirement - Undergraduate

Admission to undergraduate courses at UTAS requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia. We have provided a list of countries and their academic qualifications that meet the University's minimum entry requirements.

Applicants must achieve the required grade in their studies, meet prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Basic entry requirements for most undergraduate programs can be viewed by clicking on the links through the international course list. Students who do not meet these requirements may enrol in the UTAS Foundation Studies Program.

Academic Requirement - Postgraduate

Admission to most postgraduate courses at UTAS requires qualifications equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree.

Applicants must achieve the required grade in their studies, meet prerequisite subjects and the English language requirements to be eligible for an offer.

Courses that have additional requirements

Some courses require specific academic and English requirements for entry. Please ensure you read the information for the specific courses listed below if you are considering applying for these courses.

Master of Applied Science (Agricultural Science, Food Safety, Microbiology) specialisations

All applicants for these specialisations under the Master of Applied Science K7J will be required to submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with their application. This statement must:

  • outline you interest in the course and your reasons for choosing to study in your area of specialisation; and
  • be written entirely in your own words; and
  • be no more than 500 words in length.

Statements of purpose that do not meet this criteria may lead to applications being rejected.
