Col coordinates the Entrepreneurship program at the University of Tasmania. Prior to joining academia, Col had extensive experience starting up and operating a range of service related businesses, with varying levels of success and failure.
Col is a strong advocate for student centred learning approaches in higher education. He has been recognized nationally and internationally for his research and teaching and learning achievements.
He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and has published two monographs on his teaching practice ‘Teaching Entrepreneurship to Undergraduates’ and ‘Teaching Entrepreneurship to Postgraduates’.
Col’s current research is focused on small firm survival, specifically looking at the interaction between independent firms and franchised firms. Col recently addressed the United Nations multi-year meeting on enterprise development policies and capacity building in science, technology and innovation and has represented Australia at the World Entrepreneurship Forum on three occasions.
