PhD Candidate and Sessional Lecturer
My background is design of public infrastructure and places focussing on community participation and empowerment. I have lived and worked on the North West Coast of Tasmania for Local, Regional and State Government as well as private enterprise over 22 years.
I am interested in physical and cultural geography with my research focussing on the natural environment and the human interpretation of its value.
My PhD research investigates the natural, cultural and social values of the Tarkine, and how they may play a part in shaping its future through understanding the inherent conflicts that come with strong attachment to place.
My research poses questions about the Tarkine in terms of current use, protection measures, tourism, ecosystem services, regional politics and global influences. I am using investigative tools such as GIS mapping technologies and conflict resolution methodologies to consider a vision for the Tarkine that diverges from traditional regional development approaches.
