I am a very ‘mature aged’ student, with a passion for community and governance. As a member of local government (Waratah-Wynyard Council), I have been fortunate enough to participate in the role of government and governance since 2005. The concept of community engagement and governance that ‘shapes place’ and local value creation that may underpin community and economic development, is the foundation of my PhD research into local government, social innovation, social entrepreneurship and social enterprises. My PhD will research existing and potential relationships between local government and social enterprises, and what is the value of these relationships between local government and social enterprises in shaping place.
