Communications Technologies is responsible for the provision and management of telephone, data network and video conference related services offered by Information Technology Services (ITS). In addition, the Communications Technologies team also ensures that the physical environment surrounding data centres, including cooling and power, supports the consistent provision of UTAS systems and services.
The core focus of the Communications Technologies team is to manage the data and voice networks which enable access to UTAS’ intranet, the Internet, email, and other network resources from all areas of the University. Together with Computing Support Officers the Communications Technologies team also manages the connection of computers to UTAS network infrastructure.
The following communications services are widely available across the University.
The use of the University's data networks is regulated by the ICT Services and Facilities Usage Policy (PDF 400KB). If you encounter any use which is in breach of these guidelines please report it to the head of the relevant school, department or division, the Service Desk, or to IT Services.
Staff and students can access internal University resources (including Library databases and catalogues) from home through their Internet Service Provider (ISP) via the use of VPN technology. Secure off-campus access to staff and student email accounts is provided via webmail.
