Copying and printing for students is done through a central service called the Copying and Printing System (CaPS). Students get a CaPS printing account that is linked to their UTAS username and password. The account is linked to a “purse” that must have a credit balance to enable the printing or copying to occur. Students are able to print to any of the CaPS-enabled printers either wirelessly or from a central computer lab. Students can "top-up" their accounts through coin machines or across the counter services located in UTAS libraries and various administrative areas within schools and faculties.

Standard service includes

• Student printing and copying services
• Refund if printer does not return a valid print/copy job
• Accounting of balances.

This service does not include:

• Printing from negative balance accounts
• Printing from some mobile devices i.e. iPads
• Supply of the printer, or other hardware.

How to request this service

• To enable a printer or photocopier to use CaPS you need to contact the Service Desk to obtain a Connection request form.

• A service charge of 5 cents per page is levied by ITS - this contributes to the costs of providing the service.

Customer responsibilities

• Please report any service failure or interruption to the Service Desk
• Students are responsible for managing their printing and copying accounts
• Failure to print to the correct printer is not a reason for refund
• Supply of the printer.
