ITS provides UTAS with secure file storage for corporate, research and staff data, enabling file servers to share data within the organisation. File storage provides folder sharing and controls access via permissions set on folders. ITS file storage infrastructure provides a higher level of manageability, scalability, and availability for our file servers.

Standard service includes

Managed file storage for:

• Corporate data on network drives (N and S drives)
• Home data on network drive (P drive)
• Research data on network drive (R drive)
• Secure access governed by ITS policy.

This service does not include

• Storage of files on local hard drives
• Storage of files on mobile devices.

How to request this service

• Storage, backup and archiving are automated ITS processes
• Retrieval of files is requested through the Service Desk.

Customer responsibilities

• Ensure that files are relevant to corporate or research work
• Minimise personal data stored on the home drive
• Ensure that files stored do not breach copyright (e.g. music, movies) or University, State and Federal legislation.

Support commitments

The ITS Infrastructure and Operations team monitor file storage and backup systems to ensure data is secure and infrastructure provides capacity and business continuity. Monitoring is automated with event alerts and weekly reports, supplemented with ad hoc analysis.
