The Tasmanian Archive & Heritage Office has released a new State Recordkeeping Advice on "Digitisation Dilemmas".
The Tasmanian Archive & Heritage Office (TAHO) is the state regulatory body for archives and recordkeeping in Tasmania. It periodically releases Guidelines and Advices dealing with various aspects of recordkeeping. While the Advices are not technically mandatory, they are the TAHO's recommendations as to best practice and should be followed wherever possible.
"State Recordkeeping Advice 30: Digitisation Dilemmas" describes the benefits, risks and issues involved in digitising records and discusses some potential solutions to those issues. Business areas interested in setting up a digitisation program should also familiarise themselves with the related disposal schedule on source records (DA 2159) and the Records Management Unit's Information Sheet 7: Scanning and Destroying Paper Records.
A full listing of all State Recordkeeping Guidelines and Advices can be found on the TAHO website.
