ICT Security

Information Technology Services (ITS) is committed to reducing risks associated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) assets. ICT Security is responsible for ensuring that information and information systems such as intellectual property, corporate applications, and student records safe, secure and protected.

More specifically, managing and coordinating the ICT Security Program at UTAS includes:

  • Development of the ICT Security Policy and provision of interpretation and advice
  • Management of ICT Security incidents, investigations and reporting
  • Provision of advice on safe computing practices
  • Notification of ICT Security threats that could impact on the UTAS community

Why does UTAS need ICT Security?

The ever increasing use of electronic communications means that personal details regarding your identity and interactions with the university are potentially accessible to others. In addition, the ongoing development of malicious software such as viruses and worms requires constant vigilance to keep your computer safe from programs designed to gather and distribute your private information, and those designed to damage your data.

UTAS takes ICT Security very seriously and requires that students protect their account passwords and take appropriate steps to ensure their home computer is secure prior to accessing UTAS resources. The information on these pages will help you understand these issues and provides some simple methods of how to protect your computer and data.
