The speed of a user's internet connection has a major influence on the quality of their online experience. While UTAS offers fast connection speeds on campus, many users access the site from their own connections, which can be much slower. In the interests of keeping UTAS sites accessible to all, it's important to optimise your site to download as quickly as possible.

What do you control?

• The total amount of text - prune your content and order it effectively for maximum usability
• Optimise your images (applies to images used in HTML pages and any other file)
• The quality of your HTML - valid HTML renders faster than bad HTML
• The format you choose for supporting documents:
  • MS Word (small filesize)
  • PDF (medium filesize)
  • Powerpoint (large filesize)
  • Multimedia (very large filesize)
