Lectopia - Student Support

Information for before you listen to a recording

Lectopia recordings are typically available through your on-line unit in MyLO. A recordings list is displayed which normally includes a list of the available recordings plus any recordings that are scheduled in the next two weeks (these recordings may not have audio associated with then yet – but may have other materials available such as Microsoft PowerPoint slides, that you can print and take with you to the lecture).

  • Where there are many recordings available (or scheduled) for your unit, the Lectopia recording list will be split into pages. The recordings are often sorted in descending date order. The recording date you are looking for may possibly be on a different page.

  • These additional "pages" can be accessed at the top of the Lectopia page, by clicking on the ‘Next’ link for the next page, or by clicking on the page by number to go directly to a page.

  • Each recording that is listed will have information describing the recording. This information is supplied to the system by your lecturer and is optional. The information can include: date, time and duration of lecture; lecture topic, speaker, outline and related sites. Each recording also has a number of pull down menus that will allow you to access various formats of the same recorded lecture.

  • These different formats are grouped into 3 format categories:

    • FLASH - these recordings are in the FLASH  format and require a "FLASH plug-in" installed on your Web Browser. These files are for playing only and cannot be saved on the computer.

    • DownloadIf the Lecturer chooses to make these available, these recordings are in a format that will allow you to save them and play them with a computer or a portable media player. They are MP4 files and require software called QuickTime Player (free edition – not QuickTime Pro) to be played.

    • Slides / Files – these are PDF files of a Microsoft PowerPoint file that your lecture may optionally supply. These can be saved to your computer and printed. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 or above to view and print these files.

  • For required media player and plug-in, click on the help and software requirements link at the top of the recordings list to confirm you have the correct software installed and to access current supported versions of the software.
