Listening to a streamed recording

To listen to a streamed recording (one that you cannot save on your computer), choose the Flash, pull down menu and select an appropriate bandwidth according to your internet connection speed

Choosing a Flash Streaming recording

  • The file size of the recording is listed in brackets – a smaller file size reduces the listening quality of the recording, but can also reduce your internet costs if at home.
  • Click on the Open button.

A new window will open (called the Lectopia Caster) similar to that shown below.

Lectopia Caster Window

  • If a new window does not open, it is likely that you have pop-up windows blocked for this website.

  • Correct this problem by going into your pop-up blocker settings and choosing to allow websites from utas.edu.au

  • If you are unsure how to do this please consult the help system for the web browser you are using – or call the IT service desk for more information.

The caster window may vary from the one shown above – depending on the options used by your lecturer. You will however, always have the area in the top left of the window.

    • The left half area of the window shows the copyright message, lecture ratings (not always available) and more information about the lecture.

    • The right half area of the window in the example shows the PowerPoint slides that have been made available to you by your lecturer. You are able to change the slide shown by clicking on the slide headings in the top right area of the screen. These slides are optional and not all staff use this feature.

 To listen to the recording:

  • Click on the continue button under the copyright information. That section of the window will change and will display the recording.
  • The recording automatically play after a few seconds dependent on your internet connection speed.

  • Flash Player

If the caster window reports an error, this can indicate that your computer has a problem with one or more of the following:

  • You do not have the required software installed (check the software requirements detailed in the help and software requirements link at the top of the recordings list )

  • There is a problem with the network preventing you from connecting to the recording,

  • You are trying to access a recording at a speed faster than what your internet connection allows.

  • You have a firewall enabled on your computer, which isn’t letting the recording through to your computer

We recommend trying a different format (Eg Downloadable format). If you are still experiencing difficulties and checking the Frequently Asked Questions page of the Student Support Document for tips on how to correct common problems – before contacting the IT Service Desk.

More details are available in the Student Support Document found on the Student support Home page. http://www.utas.edu.au/itr/lectopia/studentsupport.html
