Assoc Prof Libby Lester

Libby Lester is Associate Professor of Journalism, Media and Communications at the University of Tasmania. Her undergraduate degree is from ANU, majoring in prehistory and physical geography, and she has a PhD in Media and Communications from the University of Melbourne. She worked as a journalist for 15 years for Australian newspapers and magazines prior to joining the university in 2002. Her book, Giving Ground: Media and Environmental Conflict in Tasmania, was published in 2007 and she is currently working on books for Polity Press and Peter Lang. Her research has also appeared in Media, Culture & Society, International Journal of Communication, Journalism, Journalism Studies and Media International Australia. She is now doing research for an ARC-funded project ‘Changing Landscapes: Online Media and Politics in an Age of Environmental Conflict’. In 2009, she was Visiting Fellow at Oxford University’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, and she is an Associate Editor of the journal Environmental Communications.
