I am currently involved in a number of research projects in the area of documentary studies.
Australian documentary filmmakers and their ethical attitudes:
This cross-institutional study is the first systematic study of the experiences of Australian documentary filmmakers and their values in relation to documentary production.
Beyond the Frame:
An extension of my PhD research, I am continuing to collect the stories of documentary participants. The experiences of documentary participants have important implications for documentary ethics.
Online documentary:
This research project looks at the way in which documentary is expanding to new media possibilities such as social networking and increasing access to broadband internet.
Listening to documentary voices:
The concept of voice has been central to documentary studies but is also problematic because it focuses exclusively on the filmmaker as auteur. This research project helps to bring to light the many different elements that impact on documentary form and content. |
