Michelle is a Lecturer in Journalism, Media and Communications. Prior to joining UTAS in 2009, Michelle taught communications and cultural studies at the University of South Australia, and completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide.

In addition to her scholarly interest in popular music (particularly heavy and extreme metal), Michelle has been actively involved in the Australian underground music scene, writing for a range of music publications, including street press.
