Building creativity in secondary education the focus of visiting scholar’s public event

The challenges of building creative skills and capacity in secondary education will be the focus of a public lecture by visiting scholar Associate Professor Anne Harris, hosted by the University of Tasmania tonight (Monday, 18 September).

An Australian Research Council Future Fellow (2017-2021) exploring creativity in Australasia, and a Principal Research Fellow at RMIT University, Associate Professor Harris is a scholar and performance writer who has published more than 10 books and 60 articles/chapters in the areas of creativity, digital ethnography and social inclusion.

A native New Yorker, she has worked professionally as a playwright, teacher, dramaturg and journalist in the USA and Australia.

Associate Professor Harris will present several public events during her visit.

This lecture examines the Australian Curriculum’s call to incorporate ‘critical and creative thinking’ and the ongoing confusion and frustration in finding consistent definitions, strategies and real-world approaches for incorporating reativity into our classrooms, especially in secondary school contexts.

Working Cross Culturally in school-community research partnerships presentation (co-hosted by the Peter Underwood Centre)

This presentation details how creative practice answers the urgent need for more innovative, creative and expansive approaches to cross and intercultural access and equity in education service provision.
