Newnham's new piano

The Newnham campus now has a public piano! Launched last week, the piano was donated to the University by a community member who hoped to make the piano accessible and relevant to the student community.

Leveraging off the international Play me I’m yours movement, Student Wellbeing, Student Life, the Australian Maritime College Students’ Association and Compass Group joined forces to establish the piano on campus as a way of encouraging and promoting wellbeing and engagement.

The piano provokes people into expressing themselves in meaningful and memorable ways and brings people together by engaging, activating and taking ownership of their campus environment.

The piano also provides existing musicians with an instrument to express and share their creativity in public.

The piano, located in the Australian Maritime College Seafarers’ Bar, has already proven popular with students with several videos online showing groups of students playing and singing along.

Students and staff are invited to play and enjoy the piano regardless of skill.
