University helps foster future learning

The University of Tasmania is proud to be supporting the Festival of Learning which is taking place in Devonport for the duration of September.

Presented by Living + Learning Devonport, an initiative of the Devonport City Council, the festival aims to forge a culture of learning across the city to positively enrich its many communities.

Professor David Adams, University Pro Vice-Chancellor (Community, Partnerships and Regional Development) will deliver an address at the opening event today (Friday, 1 September), and said the institution was delighted to be presenting a higher education program that celebrated learning in all its forms.

“The University, through its Cradle Coast campus, aims to broaden its relevance to respond to the business and community priorities of the region,” Professor Adams said.

“The Festival of Learning is a great occasion for the residents of Devonport and beyond to engage with learning, and we are excited to be part of it.”

Dream Big Primary Schools exhibition

Friday, 1 September – Saturday, 30 September

Rooke Street Health Centre Windows, Rooke Street Devonport

A joint exhibition presented by the University and The Advocate newspaper which features drawings by local primary school students illustrating their future dream careers. Artwork will be displayed in the Rooke Street Health Centre windows.

University of Tasmania Pizza Night  

Thursday, 7 September 5pm – 6pm

Devonport LINC, 21 Oldaker Street, Devonport

Community members will have an opportunity to meet University staff and students who originate from the North-West while hearing about their study choices, career paths and advice for navigating year 11 and 12.

University of Tasmania Expo

Thursday, 14 September

University staff will share information about the institution’s New State of Mind curriculum. Students aged 15+ are invited to speak to the Student Recruitment team to learn more about the University’s courses and study opportunities.  

Science and Engineering Investigation Awards display

Monday, 18 September – Saturday, 30 September

Devonport LINC, 21 Oldaker Street, Devonport

Devonport students will showcase their entries from this year’s University of Tasmania Science and Engineering Investigation Awards. Held annually state-wide, the awards challenge participants in years 5 – 12 to explore a hypothesis and put scientific theories to the test through months of experimentation and examination.
