The Faculty of Law is now offering entry to the degree in June. Students may study Introduction to Law as an intensive unit during the June/July winter period.
LAW121 Introduction to Law is the first of two introductory units required for entry into the full law program.
The course covers a diverse range of topics including: 'thinking like a lawyer', introduction to the Australian legal system, introduction to Australian constitutional law, legal research, legislation, common law and precedent, judges and juries, social justice and the law of human rights, animal law and legal reasoning.
Introduction to Law is open to students intending to proceed in to a full law degree as well as students in other degrees wanting to pick up an extra unit over winter.
Enrolment: If you are a current student enrolling in LAW121 Introduction to Law within an existing course, enrol through eStudent (the semester is referred to as 'Intensive Session Jun').
If you are a new student starting with a June unit, you will need an offer into a course that commences in 'Intensive Session Jun' or earlier. Complete an online application. Once you receive and accept your offer, simply add the unit LAW121 Introduction to Law to your enrolment.
Relocation: High achieving interstate students who are re-locating to Tasmania to commence direct entry Bachelor of Laws or combined degree with Law may be eligible for a $5000 re-location scholarship. Students who wish to study LAW121 as a standalone unit, will need to contact the Manager Academic Administration – Law Law.Enquiries@utas.edu.au about applying for a place in course X3D Bachelor of General Studies. Applications for this course are only accepted on a personalised paper application which will be prepared for the applicant by the Faculty.
