I did my Bachelor of Law in UTAS for 3 years starting in 2008 and graduated in 2010. When I first started, that was the first time in my life that I was away from my beloved family and friends. I was so far away from home. Yet, I got settled down and made friends so fast that I did not even realise I was homesick at that time. The housing system was efficient, the lecturers in UTAS were so knowledgeable and very approachable, and the students were friendly and helpful. I’m not going to lie, I did feel homesick a lot during the 3 years I was there, but I guess that is normal for an overseas student. Thank god for the student body in law school who were great at organising many social events which had allowed me to meet more great people of law school.
I am currently working with a Senior Counsel and assisting with general litigation. In my job, I get to meet so many different people from all walks of life and am exposed to many areas of law. I must say that the many core subjects and electives I took in UTAS has served me well in building my foundation for the current work I am doing now. The practical skills and build up knowledge I acquired while in UTAS is so worthwhile for my purposes now (and I believe it is worthwhile for any purpose, no matter where you are at).
Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing about the time I had in UTAS. There were good, sad and even really stressful moments where you just feel like giving up. But those 3 years spent in Tasmaniawere priceless. Apart from getting to enjoy the beauty and serenity that is Tasmania, my overall experience there had shaped my capabilities further and has made me a more independent person. I had a lot of wonderful and unforgettable moments there and it will always be etched in memory. It will always be a part of my life that I will never ever forget.
