Law Professor wins Distinguished Service Medal

Professor Warner has been acknowledged with the high honour of the Distinguished Service Medal.

This year’s recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal is Professor Kate Warner, Director of the Tasmania Law Reform Institute and Professor of Law. Prof Warner, who became the first woman Professor and Dean of the Faculty in 1992, received a silver medallion and a $25,000 grant.

The Distinguished Service Medal is awarded to an individual member of staff, who over a sustained period, has provided meritorious and distinguished service to the University. This is only the fourth time that the medal has been awarded since its inauguration in 2004. It is the second time this award has been given to a staff member of the Law Faculty, Professor Don Chalmers was previously a recipient.

The Celebration of Excellence annual awards celebrate staff who have excelled in their contributions to the work of the University.

Two other members of the Law Faculty, Dr Brendan Gogarty and Ms Anja Hilkemeijer, were also recognised with the Vice-Chancellor’s ‘Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning’.
