Strategic Plan 2004 - 2006

Vision

The Library will be the hub of the University, recognised as the centre for access to and assistance with information resources and for leadership in information literacy.

Reputation

For the University to be recognised for its nationally distinctive courses and research in theme areas, the Library will provide access to collections to support all academic areas, but particularly in specialist, thematic areas of research and training

The Library will be recognised for its contribution to the growth and development of Tasmania by further developing its strategic alliances with the State Library, with other academic libraries and the national library community.

People

Integrating student learning and lifestyle, the Library will provide a vibrant Learning Hub environment.

In support of distinctive, flexible and innovative learning experiences, Library clients will receive quality service and access to information wherever they are located. The Library will provide an inclusive teaching and learning environment by providing equitable access to library services for all clients.

Library services will be driven by need, not technology, provided by helpful professional staff and aligned with academic programs.

Library staff will work cooperatively to create a collegial working environment.

To attract and maintain Library staff of the highest quality, working conditions and remuneration will be nationally competitive. The Library will provide a comprehensive staff training program resulting in multi-skilled staff. There will be a supportive environment for personal and professional development.

Position

The Library will prudently manage its facilities by providing information resources in electronic and print format, with low-use materials housed in purpose built storage facilities

The Library will provide an effective environment for teaching and learning and research through its IT services particularly through:

  • First line IT support for students and staff
  • A smooth interface between the Library system and University systems
  • Easy transition between the University Library, State Library and National Library systems
