RSFTSTYL\6(apa5th utas 0508Psychology6 8-This style is based on the Publication Manual of the APA, 5th ed. and the APA Style Guide to Electronic References (2007). The APA style is a very complex style. EndNote can handle most of the requirements of this style, but EndNote does not include the full spectrum of reference types that are described in the APA manual. If you are citing a reference type that is not included in EndNote, you should consult the APA manual. You may need to add or modify your own reference types. Journal Article Use this reference type for print versions of articles. Electronic Article APA distinguishes electronic articles that have a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number supplied by the publisher and restricted in access; and electronic articles that are freely available on the WWW. Electronic journal articles with a DOI "Retrieved from URL" and "Retrieved Access date" are no longer required when you are citing a DOI in an Electronic Article reference type. Quoting [Electronic version] in the Title field of a Journal Article reference type is also no longer required. Use the Electronic Article reference type, and ensure the DOI number is added into the DOI field in your EndNote Library. Remove any URL links in the URL field of the EndNote Library. Electronic journal articles without a DOI Use the Electronic Article reference type when citing a journal article freely available on the WWW which does not have a DOI. Use the URL field and enter either the URL of the journal's website (for subscription journals), or the full URL of the article (for articles available free on the web). "Retrieved Access Date" is no longer required in your bibliography. Preprint Article Use the Electronic Article reference type. Add the DOI in the DOI field in the EndNote Library. The DOI will appear in your bibliography. Remove the URL from the URL field. In the formatted bibliography after the pages, add Advanced online publication. and Retrieved Access Date. For example: 181-188. Advance online publication. Retrieved January 22, 2007. Alternatively, at the end of the Pages field in your EndNote Library, add Advance online publication. and the Access Date (i.e. Retrieved Month Day, Year.). For example: Pages 181-188. Advance online publication. Retrieved January 22, 2007. Alternatively, create your own reference type for Preprint Article. Electronic Book If the book is freely available on the web, enter the URL in the URL field. If the book is only available from a subscription database, enter the name of the database in the Name of Database field. You will need to remove any unwanted extra information from your bibliography. Report For a report which is available online, use the Report reference type and enter the URL of the report in the URL field. Thesis For a thesis which is available online, enter the URL in the URL field if the thesis is freely available. If the thesis is only available via a subscription database, enter the name of the database in the Name of Database field, and add an accession number (if known) in the Accession Number field. You will need to remove any unwanted extra information from your bibliography. Alternatively, create your own reference type for an electronic thesis. Web Page Use the Web Page reference type for other online sources. Enter data in the Last Update Date field, if available. If appropriate, enter data in the Type of Medium field, e.g. Video file, Press release, PowerPoint slides, Audio file, Abstract. Film or Broadcast The EndNote "Film or Broadcast" reference type is based on APA guidelines for a "Single episode from a television series" (see entry #68 on page 267 of the spiral-bound edition). If you are citing a Film of limited circulation, a TV broadcast, or a TV series, you should create a new reference type. Consult the chapter "Customizing Reference Types" of the EndNote manual. Manuscript The EndNote "Manuscript" reference type follows the APA guidelines for an "Unpublished manuscript not submitted for publication" (see entry #58 on page 263 of the spiral-bound edition). For works that have been submitted for publication, enter them into the reference type in which they will be published (e.g. Journal Article) and type "In Press" in the Year field. Artwork / Map The "Artwork" and "Map" reference types are not specifically discussed in the APA Handbook, so if you are using these reference types, check with the editor. Personal Communications "Personal Communications," which include e-mails, should not be included in the final reference list according to APA guidelines section 3.102 (p. 214 of the spiral-bound edition). Cite them only in the text itself in parenthesis according to the APA handbook. Bills For "Bills", enter the number of the Senate resolution in EndNote's Title field, e.g.: "S. Res. 107" for Senate Resolution 107. Enter the number of the Congress in the field Legislative Body, e.g.: "103d Cong." for 103d Congress. Enter the volume of the Congressional Record in the EndNote field called Code Volume. ERIC Documents ERIC Documents: Should use the Report reference type, enter the Words "ERIC Document Reprotuction Service" in the publisher field and the document number in the Document Number field. NTIS Documents NTIS Documents: Should use the Report Reference type, enter the word "NTIS" in the Publisher field and the document number in the Document Number field.
