GEOBASE is a multidisciplinary database supplying bibliographic information and abstracts for the Earth sciences, ecology, geomechanics, human geography, and oceanography. The database covers approximately 2,000 international journals, including both peer-reviewed titles and trade publications. Coverage is from 1973 to present and the database is updated weekly.

Truncation and Wildcard Characters

Auto-stemmingGEOBASE has an auto-stemming feature.    Terms are automatically stemmed, except in the author field, unless the "Autostemming off" feature is checked.

example:  
management returns manage, managed, manager, managers, managing, management

Truncation - If you want to do your own truncation, first you will need to switch off the auto stemming feature above.
Use truncation (*) to search for words that begin with the same letters.
comput* returns computer, computers, computerize, computerization

Truncation can also be used to replace any number of characters internally.
sul*ate returns sulphate or sulfate

Wildcard - Use wildcard symbol ie a question mark, (?) to replace a single character.
example:
wom?n retrieves woman or women

Saving Records

Mark the records you wish to save by clicking in the box to the left of the record.
Click on the view selected link at the top of the list of records.

Records can be:-

  • Printed using the Browser's Print command or button at the top of the screen.
  • E-mailed using the E-mail Articles link above the results lists, which opens an email form.
  • Directly Exported to EndNote using the Download button above the results lists.
  • Saved as a Search History using the Save to folder button above the results list.
