Accessing  PubMed  Medline

From the Library's homepage at http://www.utas.edu.au/library 

• select Databases from the menu on the left,
• select P and find PubMed in the list and click it to open.
• Direct access - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?holding=iauutaslib_fft

Conducting a search

In order to best control the search it is recommended to start with the  Limits  link open.

From the resulting drop down menu bars it is possible to specify the field (author, title, journal name, subject etc.), publication type (trial, review etc,) Ages, Languages, Gender, publication date range. and so more precisely define the search if that is what is needed.

Type the search you want in the Search bar, click  Go  and the results will be displayed as shown:

Managing the results

By ticking the left hand boxes of records you require and then selecting Clipboard from the drop down   Send to  tab ;  a file of wanted citations is maintained. Later by clicking on the  Clipboard  icon (below the search bar) the selection of wanted citations can be retrieved.

At this point the citations may be printed, saved to a file or exported to EndNote.

Linking to the full text of articles available in UTAS held e-journals

Change the Display option in your results from Summary to Abstract. When the library has the full text for that article you will see the UTAS icon

Click on this to go to the full text of the article.

Help and training

A PubMed  BASICS tri-fold pamphlet, which develops further the basics covered above is also available from the Clinical and Science libraries.

Instruction in the use of all features available to you in PubMed can be provided by Library staff who can arrange one-to-one or group training sessions.

PubMed's own  Help and  Tutorial,  from the left hand menu bar, also contain valuable assistance on the full range of  features you may come to need.
